How to take a baby’s passport photo at home

  1. Lay out a white sheet. On the floor or a bed — or cover a car seat with it.
  2. Shoot from above. Lay your baby on the sheet; take the photo from directly above with even light.
  3. Two adults. One keeps the baby calm, the other takes the photo with the rear camera.
  4. No hands in the frame. Keep hands, toys and dummies out, then check and download.

Rules for children: baby passport photo rules by country · US · UK · Canada · Australian · Indian

FAQ

Questions

Can I make photos for my whole family?

Yes. Add up to 6 people — adults, children and babies — each with their own document. The Family kit is 2.99, one-time · no subscription.

Do all photos have to be for the same document?

No. Each person picks their own document; the family sheet groups photos of the same size together.

Does my baby need eyes open?

United States: not always — “It is okay if a baby's eyes are not entirely open.”
United Kingdom: not always for babies under 1 — eyes may be closed
Canada: yes — no exception is published for babies
Australia: yes — no exception is published for babies
India (passport): not always for babies under 1 — eyes may be closed
Other documents (Schengen, China, Japan, India e-Visa): no special rules are published for children, so adult rules apply — eyes open. Rules checked October 20, 2026.

What is free?

One digital photo for one person, from an uploaded photo. The Family kit adds everyone else, print sheets and camera-helper photos.
